Will Tuesday’s Vote be Super or Surprising?

In two Day’s Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will go head-to-head in 22 states, one territory (American Samoa) and Democrats living abroad, including Canada. They will be fighting for 1,681 of the 2,025 delegates needed to become the Democratic nominee.

To become a delegate, each state determines the process by which its delegates are selected. That process is described in the state party’s delegate selection plan. These plans must comply with national Democratic Party rules that provide guidelines to ensure a fair, open and inclusive process.

Of the total number of delegates needed to win the nomination, Oklahoma has 47 up for grabs during Tuesday’s battle of the “Big D”. Over 300 state convention delegates have filled out their request forms to become delegates to the National convention in Denver this August. From that number, a total of 53 delegates will be elected Saturday, February, 23 to represent Oklahoma at the National convention.

Delegates are broken into categories according to the selection plan written by the state party and approved by the DNC. The breakdown for delegates will be as follows:

District Level 25 (each district will elect 5 delegates)
District Level Alternates 4
Unpledged Party Leader and elected Officials Delegates 8
Unpledged Add-on Delegate 1
Pledged party Leaders and Elected Officials (PLEO’s) 5
At-Large Delegates 8
At large Alternates 2
Total Delegates 47
Total Alternates 6
Official Delegation Number 53
The state party Chair will also select 2 pages to attend the convention. One "Blogger" will also be selected from Oklahoma by the DNC to blog the daily activities of the convention. To apply for the blogger position, apply online at http://www.denverconvention2008.com/index.cfm?page=news
