Opio Toure Legacy Award

The Oklahoma Democratic Party will honor the memory of former Representative Opio Toure, Saturday, February, 23. The award will be presented every four years at the state convention during a presidential election .

Toure was elected to the state House of Representatives in 1994 and served until 2006, when he left office because of term limits. In 2006, Toure was named Minority Floor Leader by the Democratic House Leadership.

While a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, Toure served on the Appropriations and Budget Committee, Commerce, Industry and Labor Committee, Higher Education Committee, Judiciary Committee, and the Rules Committee.

The first Opio Toure Legacy Award will be presented to his family this year. Afterwards, one individual who has contributed to the advancement of human rights in Oklahoma will receive the award once every four years.
