Senator Barack Obama's big win in South Carolina yesterday and Caroline Kennedy's personal, eloquent endorsement today in the New York Times reflect an historic shift in the 2008 Presidential Primary and Oklahoma will soon be part of the history as voters go to the polls on Tuesday, February 5th along with more than 20 other states to select a nominee from the last three standing Democratic candidates.
One of the most interesting, and possibly most important thing, is the historic turnout for the primaries. We saw it in Iowa, then in New Hampshire, again in Nevada and yesterday in South Carolina where turnout, not race, not gender, but turnout is the BIG story. Democrats are turning out in record numbers for a Presidential Primary -- in South Carolina, a 75% increase over 2004.
We'll see what the candidates can do to Get Out The Vote in Oklahoma. In 2004 just over 250,000 people voted in the primary in Oklahoma.
